The USDA recently announced more than $1 billion in funding cuts to programs that helped food banks and schools purchase fresh food from local farmers. This decision abruptly ends support for initiatives like the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program (LFPA) and the Local Food for Schools Program, which have been vital for organizations like MEND to provide nutritious, locally sourced food to families in need.
What does this mean for MEND?
These cuts directly impact our home delivery program, which supplies farm-fresh food to 220 families twice a month. Without this federal support, both the families we serve and the local farmers who grow our food face increased uncertainty.
Our Executive Director, Robin Peacock, recently spoke with NJ Spotlight News about the impact of these cuts on our community, our partners, and the families who rely on our services.

As the need for food assistance continues to rise in New Jersey and across the country, MEND remains committed to advocating for solutions and supporting our community with dignity and care.
