“Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned.” — Peter Marshall

Keily Hayes, MEND’s Director of Community Impact, taught me that there is power in consistency. She’s made it a hallmark of MEND’s programming through monthly mobile markets, bi-weekly home deliveries, and regular convenings and support of local food pantry leaders
It’s easy to overlook how powerful consistency can be — but your steady support tells a different story. Whether you make regular donations, support local food drives, volunteer your time, or stay connected through MEND’s newsletter, your commitment helps build lasting impact.
Your dedication fuels MEND’s ability to show up, follow through, and grow meaningful relationships across the community. Thank you for being a consistent and trusted part of this work for a healthier, more equitable future.

P.S. – Do you want a consistency challenge? Consider committing to 10 Days of 10Ks (spoiler alert: you don’t have to do all 10!). Read on to learn more about this ridiculous (and ridiculously fun – IYKYK!) fundraising event coming up in July.

Community Champion: Pantry Pals
The Lynne and Don Blaesser Food Pantry has partnered with the Village Colonial Neighborhood Association through the Pantry Pals program, an initiative designed to create reliable donation pipelines for food-insecure families.
Each month the Village Colonial Neighborhood Association checks in with the pantry to find out what’s truly needed—like pasta, condiments, or other items that are often overlooked but deeply appreciated by families – including holiday treats!

“The monthly ‘missions’ create a rallying point—it’s incredible to see neighbors fire each other up in our group chats, turning generosity into something joyful and community-driven.,” said Nidhi & Elizabeth, members of the group. “[T]he real reward comes from seeing how even small, consistent efforts add up to make a lasting difference for families.”

Interested in Becoming a “Pantry Pal?”
This program connects schools, orgs, businesses, and community groups with local food pantries to provide consistent donations of requested items — like cereal, cooking essentials, coffee/tea, and more.
Consider signing up to be a Pal, which requires a six-month commitment to collect/provide one food donation a month (of 25 or more items).

Why did the strawberry turn red?
May is National Strawberry Month!
Did you know…
- Strawberries are among the top 20 high-antioxidant fruits and are a great source of manganese and potassium.
- When you eat just one serving—about eight berries—provides more vitamin C than an orange.
- Strawberries can help boost your memory! The flavonoids may help to offset inflammation in the brain and delay age related memory loss.
